Causes Of Premature Ejaculation
Premature ejaculation is one of the most common sexual dysfunctions among men. It may be a difficult challenge to pin-point exactly what causes premature ejaculation because it is a complicated issue. There are however, a few main reasons that appear to be at the forefront of this issue. Perhaps two of the most important causes are procreation and anxiety. We will elaborate a little bit more on these aspects during this article. Knowing the cause of your premature ejaculation issue will help you decide what treatment methods are best suited to you, as an individual.
Procreation
We are functional beings. Our reproductive system is called the reproductive system for a very good reason. We are animals that reproduce. So from an evolutionary stand point, premature ejaculation is a good thing as it ensures the survival of the species. Now-a-days it is less a case of survival and more a focus of pleasure and emotional intimacy. We have come a long way since our prehistoric ancestors. Our brains have now developed the ability to override our reflexive, animalistic tendencies. With a little practice and knowledge you can train yourself to be in control of your body’s responses (ejaculation in this case).
Anxiety
Anxiety is another factor that causes premature ejaculation, perhaps a very major factor. Anxiety can arise from a variety of different reasons. You may be nervous to show your naked body to your partner. You may be anxious about your ability to last during sex, from bad experiences in the past. Anxiety can lead to a self-destructive cycle, where one situation fuels the other – you are anxious about your abilities, which in turn leads to poor performance, which in turn leads to more anxiety… and so forth. Therefore, learning to relax is a big factor in the treatment of anxiety. Any relaxation technique should serve you well. Recognizing your anxiety level is the first step. When you begin to feel the sensations in your body, pause and bring your attention to your breath, breathing deeply and slowly.
Rare cases
I had better mention that in some very rare cases, less than 1% of premature ejaculation cases may not be caused by anxiety. There may be some kind of disease or neurological imbalance. If you are unsure then you should consult your doctor.
Early Childhood
What causes premature ejaculation in adult life can sometimes be the result of your masturbation technique over previous years. If you masturbated a lot as a child and masturbated to orgasm to quickly, then you may have developed a strong ‘reflex action’. When we perform a certain task our brain creates a neural pathway – picture a dirt track in the forest. The more we repeat this task the thicker and more ingrained this ‘pathway’ becomes. We can now liken the dirt track to a concrete road, or even a highway. Now that you are older and you want to enjoy sex with a partner, your reflex pathway is still highly active and you automatically orgasm fast. This condition can be treated by learning to feel the onset of orgasm and stopping before you go past the point of no return. It will take some time and persistence as you are having to re-train your brain.
Although we have outlined some various reasons as to what causes premature ejaculation, it may not be the whole picture. This problem can have many different faces, but usually there will be some underlying factor. Regardless of what the underlying factor is for you, if you take recommended steps towards becoming familiar with your body then you can only improve. All the best to you, my friend.
